The Founding Madam

Nqobile Mthembu is a dynamic entrepreneur and qualified marketing professional with a career that spans multiple industries. With a background in brand development and strategy for Unilever South Africa, a global FMCG. The majority of her career was in localizing global brands, strategies and communication assets for markets in South Africa, as well as across East, West, and Southern Africa. While at Unilever, Nqobile pursued her passion for design, earning a qualification in interior design, which would later fuel her entrepreneurial journey.

After leaving the corporate world, she co-founded MAD Design Studios with her husband, an innovative architecture, interior design, and furniture manufacturing studio. Nqobile’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there—she has since launched multiple successful ventures, including Madam and Sir, a prominent restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.

As Nqobile says, "My purpose is to break the generational cycles of poverty and lack, paving the way to financial freedom for my children and future generations. By doing so, I aim to create a legacy of empowerment, not only within my family but by uplifting and impacting those around me—helping them realize their own potential for growth and success. Through financial education, mentorship, and meaningful leadership, I am committed to creating opportunities that foster lasting change, transforming lives and communities for generations to come."

The Madam’s Table is a platform designed to empower and uplift female leaders and entrepreneurs. As Nqobile often says, “We can go faster alone, but we can go farther together.”

The Madam’s Table is a place where both established leaders and aspiring ones come together, because true success is built on collective strength, shared wisdom, and the desire to lift each other up.
